In support of this mission, the SIIM Research and Development Committee annually offers grants for original research and imaging informatics training grants for students and imaging informatics professionals. The deadline for receipt of an electronic grant application package is the first Monday in August each year. Applicants are notified of the decision of the committee in January of the following year. The award period is July 1 to June 30. Any area of research involving medical imaging informatics is eligible for support as well as development of new hardware, software, or processes to support electronic imaging practice, education, or research. Preference is given to projects at SIIM member institutions, projects that contribute to the careers of new or prospective researchers, and projects that have data and software sharing plans. Residents, fellows, and students must conduct their projects under the guidance of experienced investigators. Funding may not be requested from multiple SIIM grants for the same project. At the conclusion of the project, the recipient shall submit a paper to be considered for presentation at the SIIM Annual Meeting and publication in the Journal of Digital Imaging (JDI), recognizing the SIIM grant in the manuscript's acknowledgement section. JDI has the right for first refusal. All grant recipients must submit an interim report six months after the start of the project and a final report within sixty days after completion of the project.
