SIIM Grants

The mission of The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) is to advance computer applications and information technology in medical imaging through education and research. In support of this mission, the SIIM Research and Development Committee offers the following research grants for 2009.

2009 SIIM Grant Program

For 2009, the SIIM Research and Development Committee is offering two $50,000 grants to support original research in the field of imaging informatics as well as the following: a small grant for imaging informatics training, a small grant for product support development, an emeritus mentor grant, and a micro grant. The deadline for receipt of an electronic grant application package was August 1, 2008, and applicants will be notified of the decision of the committee in January 2009. The award period will begin July 1, 2009.

Any area of research involving medical imaging informatics is eligible for support as well as development of new hardware, software, or processes to support electronic imaging practice, education, or research. Preference is given to projects at SIIM institutions, projects that contribute to the careers of new or prospective researchers, and projects that have data and software sharing plans. Residents, fellows, and students must conduct their projects under the guidance of experienced investigators. Funding may not be requested from multiple SIIM grants for the same project.

At the conclusion of the project, the recipient is to submit a paper to be considered for presentation at the SIIM 2010 Annual Meeting and publication in the Journal of Digital Imaging (JDI). JDI has the right for first refusal.

All grant recipients must submit an interim report six months after the start of the project and a final report within sixty days after completion of the project.
