ABII Certification of the Imaging Informatics Professional

SIIM is pleased to announce the founding of the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII). Established in 2007 in partnership with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), ABII establishes a new program that allows Imaging Informatics Professionals (PACS administrators) to gain certification and to earn the credential of CIIP (Certified Imaging Informatics Professional). Review the October 31, 2007 joint SIIM/ARRT press release with the announcement of the ABII Board of Trustees.

SIIM is recognized as an unbiased, expert source of information and leader in the field of Imaging Informatics. SIIM maintains an ongoing commitment to the entire Imaging Informatics community. In support of this commitment, SIIM has taken the next step toward the continuing education and professionalization of the industry through its Imaging Informatics Professional Certification Program, which is administered by ABII. The certification program defines the standard to demonstrate the knowledge and competence necessary for professionals in the field of Imaging Informatics and recognizes the distinct competencies that varying backgrounds bring to the profession.

Certification Examination

The Imaging Informatics Professional (IIP) Examination pilot test was offered at SIIM 2007 in Providence, RI, on June 9, 2007. 103 candidates sat for the pilot exam. The first computer-based IIP Examination was held on September 28, 2007, at PearsonVue testing centers throughout the United States.

Registration for the March 2008 computer based examination will open October 15, 2007 and closes on January 20, 2008. For each exam, space is limited to the first 100 registrants.
